Music that crosses time
In September, Turin and Milan will once again host musicians from all over Europe with 126 concerts that will play on the theme “Futuri”. A title that tells how composers have always written music that was perfect for their era but then bequeathed it to posterity, or composed for ears that did not yet exist. This is the challenge of music: to cross time after months in which time has been interrupted by the pandemic.
A symmetrical playbill for the two cities, an articulated and varied programme, but at the same time coherent, that gathers different proposals for different listeners, with many new proposals. In Turin, the festival opens on 9 September at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi with “Absences” (music by Manuel De Falla, Maurice Ravel, George Crumb, Lili Boulanger and Hugo Wolf), and closes in Milan with the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado and in Turin with “Romantic Symphonies” (music by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Robert Schumann), where the Filarmonica della Scala will be conducted by Riccardo Chailly (Auditorium Giovanni Agnelli at Lingotto). Other guests include pianists Ivo Pogorelich, Brad Mehldau, Gabriela Montero, Michail Lifits; violinist Sergej Krylov; tenor Ian Bostridge; accordionist Ksenija Sidorova.
