On the occasion of the Carnival, an exhibition is opening at Palazzo Pitti devoted to Baroque festivals and carnivals, with their enormous triumphal floats, masks and allegories, impressive sets and endless surprises. As its focal point the exhibition has the painting by Johann Paul Schor of the sumptuous masquerade of Prince Giovanni Battista Borghese for the Roman Carnival in 1664 (below), exhibited together with the Joust of Carousels by Filippo Gagliardi and Filippi Lauri, given on loan by the Museum of Rome at Palazzo Braschi, and with numerous drawings, objects and engravings.
